Built Like a Blade, Engineered Like a Rifle

A swordfish is nature's precision instrument — hydrodynamic, singularly focused, and built for decisive speed. We apply that same philosophy to every firearm, build, and service that leaves our Denver facility: no wasted motion, no shortcuts, and absolutely no compromise between form and function.

Precision Engineering

Every build is machined and fitted to tolerances measured in thousandths of an inch, verified on calibrated equipment before it ever reaches your hands.

Rigorous Safety Standards

Multi-point safety inspections, function testing, and documented quality checks accompany every firearm and component we handle, sell, or service.

Master Craftsmanship

Our gunsmiths bring decades of combined experience in custom builds, precision gunsmithing, and restoration of classic and modern platforms alike.

Full Legal Compliance

Every transaction follows federal, Colorado state, and local regulations, including required background checks, recordkeeping, and licensed-dealer transfers.

Nothing Leaves Our Shop Without Being Verified

Precision is only real if it can be measured. That's why every build, repair, and installation that passes through our Denver facility follows a documented quality-assurance process from the moment a component arrives to the moment a finished product leaves our hands.

Sourced Responsibly

We work only with reputable manufacturers and licensed distributors, verifying authenticity and specification on every component before it enters a build.

Calibrated Tooling

Our gunsmithing bay uses regularly calibrated measuring and machining equipment, so tolerances stay consistent from the first build to the thousandth.

Documented Testing

Function tests, safety checks, and fit verification are logged for every project, giving you a clear record of exactly what was done and confirmed.

One Point of Contact. Zero Wasted Motion.

The swordfish is among the fastest creatures in the ocean — not because it is the largest or strongest, but because every part of its body is aligned toward one purpose. That singular focus is the standard we hold ourselves to: whether we're fitting a trigger group, zeroing an optic, or walking a first-time buyer through a compliant purchase, everything we do is aligned around precision and trust.

We call it the Swordfish Standard — a commitment to cutting away everything unnecessary, so what remains is faster, cleaner, and built to perform when it matters.

It shows up in small ways too: a callback returned the same day, a straightforward explanation of a legal requirement instead of a runaround, and a willingness to say "that's not the right build for you" when a different configuration would genuinely serve you better. Precision, to us, is as much about honesty as it is about tolerances.

Named For A Predator Built On Focus

SWORDFISH, L.L.C. was founded in Denver, Colorado by a small group of gunsmiths, engineers, and range instructors who shared a single frustration: too many firearms businesses treated precision as an upsell rather than a baseline. We set out to build a company where accuracy, safety, and legal compliance weren't separate departments — they were the entire foundation.

The name is deliberate. A swordfish is one of the ocean's most efficient predators, not because of brute size, but because its entire body — from its elongated bill to its rigid, hydrodynamic frame — is optimized around a single trajectory. There is no wasted motion. We wanted our company to feel the same way: lean, purposeful, and precise in everything from how we machine a barrel to how we walk a customer through a background check.

Today, from our facility on East Jefferson Drive, we serve clients across Colorado and, through compliant shipping to licensed dealers nationwide, customers across the United States — ranging from first-time owners to competitive shooters and long-time collectors.

What hasn't changed since our first small workshop is the belief that a firearms business earns trust one careful, well-documented interaction at a time. We would rather take an extra ten minutes explaining a legal requirement or a fitting decision than rush a customer toward a sale they aren't fully confident in. That patience is, in its own way, part of the craftsmanship we're known for.

What Guides Every Decision We Make

Our mission is simple: deliver precision-built firearms and equipment through a process that is transparent, compliant, and respectful of the seriousness of what we sell. These five values shape every interaction, whether it's a first phone call or a decade-long service relationship.

Safety First, Always

Every recommendation we make prioritizes safe handling, safe storage, and safe operation above all else.

Uncompromising Compliance

We follow ATF regulations, Colorado state law, and local ordinances to the letter, with documentation to match.

Precision Over Volume

We would rather deliver one perfectly fitted build than ten rushed ones.

Customer-Centered Guidance

No pressure, no upselling — just honest guidance based on your intended use and experience level.

Two Words We Never Separate

Craftsmanship without compliance is a liability. Compliance without craftsmanship is just paperwork. We treat them as a single discipline.

Licensed Process

All firearms transactions are conducted in accordance with federal licensing requirements, including mandatory background checks and transaction recordkeeping.

Certified Gunsmiths

Our technicians maintain ongoing manufacturer and armorer-level certifications across the platforms we service most frequently.

State-Aware Guidance

Because firearms laws vary widely, we verify state and local requirements before every shipment or transfer — no exceptions.

Responsible Ownership Is Part Of The Product

We believe a firearm sold without proper education is an incomplete transaction. That's why every purchase at Swordfish includes a conversation about safe storage, safe handling, and local legal obligations — not as an afterthought, but as a core part of the service.

Our team regularly partners with local ranges to host safe-handling clinics, and we maintain relationships with certified instructors we're glad to refer clients to for hands-on training, regardless of experience level.

We also encourage every client, new or experienced, to think seriously about secure storage solutions appropriate for their household. A great firearm paired with poor storage practices is still a serious risk, and our team is always happy to talk through options that fit your living situation.

Where Every Component Comes From

Quality starts long before a build reaches our workbench. We source barrels, actions, optics, and furniture exclusively from established manufacturers and licensed distributors, verifying part authenticity, batch specifications, and material certifications before anything is approved for use in a client build.

For finishing work — coatings, cerakote, and refinishing — we use industrial-grade processes designed to hold up under repeated field use, not just look good on a showroom shelf. If a component doesn't meet our internal standard, it doesn't go out the door, regardless of how far along a project already is.

Every Purchase Follows The Same Rulebook

Regardless of product category, every transaction that requires it is processed through a completed background check via the required federal system, accurate identity verification, and full compliance with Colorado state law and any additional requirements in the buyer's home state.

Age, residency, and documentation requirements apply to every firearm sale and transfer. Our staff will always explain these requirements clearly before any transaction begins, and we reserve the right to decline any sale that cannot be completed in full compliance with applicable law.

The Relationship Doesn't End At Pickup

A build is only as good as the support behind it, so we stay involved well after a project or purchase is complete. Firearms are mechanical tools that see real wear over years of use, and we'd rather see you back in our shop for a tune-up than see a preventable issue go unaddressed.

Ongoing Maintenance

Scheduled cleaning and inspection appointments help keep custom builds performing exactly as intended, season after season.

Build Records On File

We keep detailed specification and service records for every project, so future adjustments or repairs never start from scratch.

Direct Access To Your Gunsmith

Questions after delivery go straight to the technician who worked on your build, not a generic support queue.

What To Expect When You Visit

Our Denver facility on East Jefferson Drive combines a consultation showroom with a dedicated gunsmithing workshop. Walk-ins are always welcome during business hours, though we recommend booking an appointment for custom build consultations or optics fitting sessions so a specialist is available to give you their full attention.

Please bring a valid, government-issued photo ID for any visit that may involve a firearms transaction, transfer pickup, or service drop-off, as required by federal and Colorado law.

You Don't Have To Live In Denver To Work With Us

A meaningful share of our custom build and gunsmithing clients live outside Colorado. We handle these relationships through phone and video consultations, detailed photo and specification documentation throughout a build, and compliant shipping to a licensed dealer near you for final pickup.

If you're shipping a firearm to us for service, our team will walk you through exactly how to package it, which carrier requirements apply, and how the return shipment will be handled once work is complete — always in accordance with federal and state regulations governing firearm shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions below cover what most new and returning clients ask before their first visit or consultation. If yours isn't listed, our team is always just a call or message away.

Do I need an appointment for a custom build consultation?

Walk-ins are welcome, but we recommend booking ahead so one of our build specialists can dedicate uninterrupted time to your project and have relevant components on hand to show you.

Can I purchase online and pick up locally?

Eligible items can be reserved for in-store pickup. Any firearm transaction must still be completed in person with valid ID and any legally required background check, regardless of how the order was initiated.

Do you ship firearms directly to my home?

No. Firearms are shipped only to a licensed dealer (FFL) local to you, where you'll complete the required paperwork and background check in person before taking possession.

What documentation should I bring in?

A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID is required for any purchase, transfer pickup, or service drop-off. Some transactions may require additional documentation depending on your state of residence.

How long does a custom build typically take?

Timelines vary by complexity and parts availability, but most custom builds are completed within four to eight weeks from final specification approval.

Do you offer financing or layaway?

We offer an in-house layaway program for custom builds and select higher-value items. Ask our team for current terms during your consultation.

Can I schedule a video consultation instead of visiting in person?

Yes. Many of our out-of-state clients plan an entire custom build through a series of video calls and photos before ever setting foot in our Denver facility. Final transfer and paperwork still happen in person with a licensed dealer.

What if I'm not sure which platform is right for me?

That's exactly what the initial consultation is for. We'll ask about your intended use, experience level, and budget, then recommend a small set of platforms that genuinely fit — without steering you toward the most expensive option by default.

Still Have Questions?

No question is too small. Reach out by phone, email, or the form above and a member of our team will get back to you personally — usually within one business day.
